What is Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is a complementary treatment that approaches the person as a whole and uses movement, breathing exercises and other yoga tools to empower wellbeing. Excessive stress, work overload, recurring injuries, chronic disorders, sleep disturbances, other physical/mental challenges like joint pain, back pain or negative feelings are all factors that can bring us out of balance. Yoga Therapy can then be very beneficial to bring balance, symptom relief, reduce stress and increase wellbeing.

Sometimes we wish that doctors considered the whole picture and not just a specific concern in isolation. In yoga therapy, we work together and work with you as a whole person. Your concerns, limitations, illness but also lifestyle, sleep patterns, breathing patterns, energy levels, and other vital systems of the body are also taken into account.

We work together on the physical, mental, and emotional level with the help of yoga tools. Step by step you will learn how to get started with yoga to gain more insight from the inside into your own active role in restoring and maintaining balance at the same time as we focus on empowerment and learning tools that you can use on your own.

How does it work

1.We start with an intake interview (60-90 minutes), in which we discuss your (medical) history and needs. This is a key component to get a full picture of your self at all levels. Together we become aware of you—physically, energetically, emotionally. This is an important step in the process to help us both discover if I can work with you and also how the personalized yoga sessions can serve you.

2.Then we continue with our first Session (90 minutes). We work together with posture, movement, and breathing. After this introduction, we evaluate the needs and how it feels for you. At this stage we might decide the number of sessions needed but we do recommend at least 3 sessions . If beneficial, there might be exercises given to practice at home.

3.At last 3 or more yoga therapy sessions. The therapeutic effect of an individual session is aimed at restoring and maintaining inner balance, managing, and preventing ill health. All yoga components with which we practice together are carefully selected to work in a practical and targeted manner and are adapted to meet your personal needs.
